For the curious:
I stumbled into a love of performing that had been growing inside me from a young age watching my sister’s performances as she made her way through the theatre arts magnet she attended. “I wish I could get up there and do that” was the thought running through my 12 year-old little mind. A few years later I auditioned for the very same program and was accepted (definitely not on the merit of my sister’s outstanding career…) I quickly dove into every opportunity I could take advantage of to become the best actor I could possibly be. My program was very focused in musicals and I, let me tell ya, love a good musical. I took voice lessons, dance classes, diction courses, and technical courses too, because, let’s face it, there isn’t much money on stage. Regardless, I spent 6 hours a day rehearsing throughout high school. 3 for the magnet; 3 for professional shows downtown. (Not that they paid me…. they didn’t say intern, but….) I worked as an actor for several years, but then those pesky bills started to creep ever higher and it became harder and harder to make the rent on an actor’s paycheck. I eventually was forced into a “temporary” hiatus that lasted long enough to feel not so temporary any more and found my way to voice acting. Here was a world where I could still exercise my creativity and get back to calling myself an actor again rather than a bartender, and I jumped right in!
